Wildlife Tour
Overview
This wildlife-focused tour with Thaji Lanka Tours takes you through some of Sri Lanka’s best national parks and nature reserves. We start in the northern plains, where you will visit Minneriya or Kaudulla National Park, famous for large gatherings of elephants during the dry season.
The itinerary then moves to Yala National Park, which is known for having one of the highest densities of leopards in the world, as well as sloth bears and crocodiles. The tour includes multiple game drives to increase the chances of sightings.
Besides the main parks, we will visit the Sinharaja Forest Reserve, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a hotspot for endemic bird species. The tour is accompanied by experienced naturalist guides who provide insights into the local ecosystems.
Itinerary
Day 01
- Welcome to Sri Lanka!
- Upon your arrival at the Colombo Airport, a friendly guide from Thaji Lanka Tours will be waiting to greet you with beautiful orchid garlands.
- Enjoy a comfortable direct transfer to your hotel near Wilpattu National Park.
- Spend the evening relaxing and preparing for your wildlife adventure.
- Overnight stay in Wilpattu.
Day 02
- Start your day very early (5:30 AM) with a packed breakfast, heading straight into Wilpattu National Park.
- Enjoy a thrilling full-day wildlife safari in Sri Lanka’s largest national park, known for its dense leopard population and unique natural lakes (villus).
- After an exciting day of wildlife spotting, travel to your next destination in Dambulla.
- Check in and enjoy an overnight stay at your Dambulla hotel.
Day 03
- After a relaxing breakfast, travel to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Sigiriya and conquer the ancient Lion Rock Fortress, marveling at its advanced water gardens and stunning frescoes.
- Return to Dambulla for an immersive Hiriwadunna village tour. Experience authentic Sri Lankan rural life with a bullock cart ride, a peaceful catamaran trip, and a traditional cooking demonstration.
- In the late afternoon, embark on an exciting jeep safari at Minneriya National Park to witness the spectacular gathering of wild elephants.
- Check in to your hotel for the evening.
- Overnight stay at your Dambulla hotel.
Day 04
- Enjoy breakfast before traveling towards the ancient hill capital, Kandy.
- Stop to explore the magnificent Dambulla Cave Temple, a complex of caves filled with intricate ancient Buddhist murals and statues.
- Visit a traditional Matale Spice Garden to discover the island’s famous spices and handmade herbal products.
- Upon reaching Kandy, pay your respects at the sacred Temple of the Tooth Relic.
- Stroll through the beautifully landscaped Peradeniya Royal Botanical Gardens.
- In the late afternoon, enjoy a vibrant Kandy Cultural Show featuring traditional dance performances.
- Take in panoramic views of the city from the scenic Kandy View Point.

Day 05
- Opt for an early morning nature walk in the Udawatta Kele Sanctuary (Optional).
- Visit an amazing Sri Lankan Gem & Jewelry Museum to witness the island’s finest craftsmanship.
- Explore authentic Batik clothing boutiques and local arts & crafts galleries.
- Begin your scenic drive into the tea country towards Nuwara Eliya.
- En route, explore the unique Ambuluwawa Tower and Nature Reserve for breathtaking 360-degree views.
- Stop to admire the cascading Ramboda Waterfall.
- Visit the Damro Labookellie Tea Factory to learn about Ceylon tea production and enjoy a fresh cup.
- Check in and enjoy the cool climate of Nuwara Eliya.

Day 06
- Start your day at 5:00 AM with a packed breakfast for an expedition into Horton Plains National Park.
- Enjoy a refreshing trek across the misty plains to witness the sheer drop of World’s End and the beautiful Baker’s Falls.
- Return to Nuwara Eliya and transfer to the Nanu Oya Railway Station.
- Board the train for a spectacular, world-renowned scenic train ride through the mountains to Ella.
- Upon arrival in the natural paradise of Ella, take a short hike up Little Adam’s Peak for stunning panoramic views.
- Visit the iconic Nine Arches Bridge and admire the surrounding Ella Gap.

Day 07
- Wake up early with a packed breakfast and depart for the deep south to explore Yala National Park.
- Embark on a thrilling full-day jeep safari through Yala, Sri Lanka’s most famous wildlife sanctuary.
- Keep your eyes peeled for majestic leopards, wild elephants, sloth bears, crocodiles, and an incredible variety of exotic birds in their natural habitat.
- After an action-packed safari, head to your hotel in Yala to relax.
- Overnight stay in Yala.
Day 08
- After a relaxed breakfast, travel to Udawalawe, another premier wildlife destination.
- Enjoy an afternoon jeep safari in Udawalawe National Park, renowned for its large population of free-roaming elephants and scenic reservoir landscapes.
- Following the safari, continue your journey to the beautiful southern coast.
- Check in to your beachfront hotel in Mirissa.
- Overnight stay in Mirissa.
Day 09
- Set out early in the morning with a packed breakfast for an unforgettable whale and dolphin watching excursion in the deep waters off Mirissa.
- Begin your journey back along the coastline towards Colombo.
- Observe the iconic traditional stilt fishermen elegantly balancing above the shallow waves.
- Explore the historic Galle Dutch Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage Site with charming colonial streets, cafes, and boutiques.
- Enjoy a peaceful boat safari along the Madu River, discovering its rich mangrove ecosystem.
- Visit the Kosgoda Turtle Hatchery to learn about marine conservation efforts.

Day 10
