Overview
This cultural tour with Thaji Lanka Tours focuses on Sri Lanka’s key historical locations. The trip begins in the Cultural Triangle, where you will visit the ancient city of Polonnaruwa and the Dambulla Cave Temple. We also include a guided hike up the Sigiriya Rock Fortress.
From the ancient cities, the tour moves to Kandy. Here, you will visit the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic and explore the local markets. We have arranged a stop at a spice garden and a tea plantation so you can learn about the local agriculture.
After Kandy, you will return to Colombo for your departure. This itinerary is designed to cover the most significant cultural sites efficiently, making it suitable for those with limited time who still want a thorough introduction to the country’s heritage.
Itinerary
Day 01
- Welcome to Sri Lanka!
- Upon your arrival at the Colombo Airport, a dedicated Thaji Lanka Tours representative will greet you with beautiful orchid garlands.
- On the way to your destination, visit the famous Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage, a sanctuary for orphaned and disabled elephants.
- Enjoy the heartwarming experience of watching the baby elephants being fed and bathed.
- Continue your journey to your hotel in Dambulla.
- Overnight stay in Dambulla.
Day 02
- After a relaxing breakfast, set off to explore the ancient kingdom of Anuradhapura.
- Discover the magnificent ruins of this UNESCO World Heritage Site with Thaji Lanka Tours.
- Pay your respects at the sacred Sri Maha Bodhi, the oldest historically authenticated tree in the world.
- Marvel at the towering Ruwanwelisaya, which enshrines a significant collection of Lord Buddha’s relics.
- See the impressively engineered ancient twin pools, Kuttam Pokuna.
- Explore numerous other historical pagodas, palaces, and ruins scattered across the site.
- Proceed to Mihintale, the cradle of Buddhism in Sri Lanka, to explore its significant monuments and shrines.
- Return to your hotel in Habarana.

Day 03
- Enjoy breakfast before traveling to the ancient city of Polonnaruwa.
- Explore the medieval capital, taking in the remarkable ruins and well-preserved structures.
- Witness the awe-inspiring Gal Vihara, featuring magnificent Buddha statues carved directly out of a solid granite rock face.
- Return to the Dambulla area for an authentic Hiriwadunna village tour. Experience local life with a bullock cart ride, a serene catamaran trip, and a traditional cooking demonstration.
- In the afternoon, embark on an exciting jeep safari through Minneriya National Park, famous for its large gatherings of wild elephants.
- Return to your Habarana hotel for the evening.
- Overnight stay in Habarana.
Day 04
- Start your morning with a climb up the iconic Sigiriya Rock Fortress, a spectacular UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its ancient frescoes and panoramic views.
- Begin your scenic drive towards the hill capital, Kandy.
- Stop to explore the remarkable Dambulla Cave Temple, housing intricate ancient murals and statues.

- Arrive in Kandy and enjoy a captivating cultural show in the late afternoon, featuring traditional Sri Lankan dances.

Day 05

Day 06
